Do we have illiterate women sitting in our government? The ladies sitting in our government should fight against this absurd marriage bill where foreign men are obliged to pay a 500 million rupiahs deposit if they wish to marry an Indonesian woman.
This means that the government is indirectly selling Indonesian women to foreigners for this amount of money. I personally find this extremely insulting because I am certainly worth more than all the money in this world.
I am married to a foreigner and within two weeks we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. My husband is very much respected by my family members and our many friends.
Many of my female friends and family members (i.e. sister, cousins and nieces) were divorced by their Indonesian husbands without any form of financial support for their mutual children. Is the government blind and ignorant?
Which ignorant man came up with this preposterous idea to sell Indonesian women to foreigners for 500 million rupiahs?
If this marriage bill is accepted by the government they will be accused of violating human rights and selling Indonesian women to foreign men.
Please bear in mind parliament and Cabinet members that slavery was abolished a long time ago when women were traded for camels and cows and a few pieces of silver.
Our soul-mate is decided and given to us by Allah and not by the government.
I call on SBY's wife, Mrs Annie, and many women sitting in our government to fight this ridiculous marriage bill.
What are the many, many women's organizations in this country doing? Are they still at their Arisan (women gathering) gossiping about their neighbors and friends? What is the minister for women's affairs doing? Is she still at her hairdressers or on a shopping trip?
