Listeria Outbreak Toxic Melons in the United States

Similar fruit Melon (cantaloupe) that grows in the State of Colorado, United States, is thought to be the cause of the Outbreak of Listeria Monocytogenes, which killed at least 13 local people and infected dozens of others. This was stated by Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) United States, based in Georgia, dated 27 September 2011 Tuesday local time.

According to the CDC, all were branded melons deadly Rocky Ford Plantation derived from Jensen in the western United States. A type of melon fruit is commonly grown in the Granada region, Colorado, United States. So far, the CDC authority says, victims who were killed were from various regions in America, namely four victims came from New Mexico, two victims came from Colorado and Texas, and each a victim of Kansas, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

While the victim is infected, and is currently being treated came from the existing 18 State in America. Based on information from the CDC, the number of infected victims numbered 72 people.

These bacteria are considered the most dangerous pathogens from food. 20 to 30 percent of infected patients are critical of this bacterium, reportedly died. Bacteria were also left 2,500 U.S. citizens were treated and 500 of them were killed each year.

While listeriosis is considered as the highest cause of death in cases of food poisoning. The number of deaths for this disease is higher than Salmonella and Clostridium.
